First Ponies are usually bought for young children that have progressed off the lead rein so are ready to progress with their riding but are not yet ready to be managing a more forward going pony. The pony must be considerate to its young rider and this usually means they can be an older pony. With this come other issues, such as possible health issues and the fact the pony will be outgrown in a few years. Consideration should be made to the future of the pony. They usually find homes even when very old as genuine, safe, sensible first ponies are very hard to come by.
