Honey – The Fabulous Charity Pony

Lord Whisky Animal Sanctuary listed the lovely Honey with us on Right Horse Right Home, hoping to find a wonderful loan home for her. Little did they know that Honey’s work for charity and young people wouldn’t stop there.

Honey is a very sweet 12h 7-year-old pony who could make a great project for a capable child, or a fabulous lead rein pony. When BHS Coach Mary-Joy of Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre saw Honey’s ad, she felt that she would be a lovely addition to her Centre. Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre is a registered charity for young people and children, many of whom have learning needs or disabilities. The centre has been going for nearly 35 years and they were seeking a pony to be used for hacking and lessons with no jumping required. Their horses and ponies are cared for to the highest standards and even get a 4-week holiday during the Summer where they go out to grass – well-earned time off for the wonderful work they do.

Mimi of Lord Whisky Animal Sanctuary felt that Honey would fit in well at Wormwood Scrubs, and after a successful viewing, it was arranged for Honey to head off to her new home.

Mary-Joy of Wormwood Scrubs said “I signed up with Right Horse Right Home with the hope to find a suitable cob for some of our disabled riders. Whilst looking through the horses on the site I came across Honey. I was attracted to her as we have a number of younger children who attend the centre and she seemed to be an ideal size and temperament. Honey is now at the Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre and has settled in very well. We are giving her some schooling so she will be ready for the children who will soon be back for the start of the new term. Thank you to Lord Whiskey Animal Sanctuary for permitting Honey to join our team of ponies and thank you to Right Horse Right Home for enabling this all to happen.”

Mimi of Lord Whisky Animal Sanctuary said “With the wonderful help of Right Horse Right Home and Wormwood Pony Centre, Honey has gone to help children and adults from inner London learn about ponies. She has a home and job for life which is fantastic.

Every August the horses are sent on holiday to enjoy grass fields and a rest. So, Honey and her friend Bee will be coming back here for their holiday. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has made this possible. Thank you”

Honey is a fabulous pony who will never realise how many children she positively impacts – charity work is clearly her calling. We are thrilled to have been able to help two charities help each other, both with the shared ethos of helping horses and children. Both charities rely heavily on public donations.
