Dream First Pony for Hetty
Back in June this year Gwyneth from Oxfordshire, owner of the lovely Annie, decided to try and find her a new home where she could be brought back into work and become a child’s pony again. Annie is a gorgeous 12h 15yr old welsh B pony. Gwyneth had only used her as a companion pony for the past 3 yrs and she had not been ridden in this time. Just eating grass and not really having any exercise to keep her trim was not suiting Annie and the vet advised, following a bout of laminitis, to try and get her ridden again.
Rather than sell Annie Gwyneth felt a loan home would be better where she could safely become re adjusted to ridden life and where Gwyneth could still be involved and oversee her future. So the quest was on to find Annie a suitable loan home where people could be mindful of the fact she has been out of work for many years. Gwyneth popped her advert with us here at Right Horse Righ
t Home and within a matter of days the applications came in from lovely people all hoping Annie would be “the one” for their children to love and adore.
Gwyneth read through her applications and prioritised Becky and her 7yr old Daughter Hetty from Somerset. Becky’s older teenage daughter already had a horse and they could offer an experienced home for Annie at a super livery yard with an abundance of facilities. Annie would be Hetty’s first pony but her elder sister, who is a light weight teenager, would be on hand to get her back into work in the early stages to ensure she was ready for her novice sister. Within just 8 days the suitable home was found and little Hetty was overjoyed to have her very own pony to cuddle, pamper and when ready ride and learn on. Gwyneth said, “I’m glad I made the decision to use Right Horse Right Home , I was most impressed with the facility that I could decline applications if I felt they weren’t suitable without any “awkward” conversations ! Although I was keen to keep Annie in Oxfordshire when I met the family I had no doubts, as finding Annie the perfect family was very important to me , she’s a very talented pony but needed the right rider.”
Annie has settled in really well with Hetty over these past 6 months. They took it fairly slowly to begin with and did not ride her at all for the first month, they just established a bond and did lots of groundwork. Hetty then went on to have 2 lessons a week on the lovely Annie and now goes out hacking and riding with her big sister. She has even been to a couple of shows. Mum, Becky says, “It is Hetty’s first pony and she totally adores her!! She does everything with her herself and has learnt so much from having her. She’s been around horses from a young age so to finally have her own made her year!! Her whole Christmas and birthday lists comprise of things for Annie!”
It gives us so much pleasure here at Right Horse Right Home to receive these updates and see horses and ponies of all types find such fantastic homes where they are cherished and adored. Hetty and her family are making great memories, Annie is keeping fit and owner Gwyneth receives regular updates on their progress.
