For Sale £5,000 Oaty
Oaty is a smart, eye-catching 16.2hh 8-year-old grey Irish Sports Horse (TB x ID) mare with King of Diamonds bloodlines. She has been in the same home for the last four years and has been a much-loved horse. This is an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking sale, but Oaty is now looking for a primarily hacking home as this is what she really enjoys and thrives doing. She could do more.. dependant on the home found. Oaty was my first horse, bought as a 4yr old. In hindsight we are not the best match. She is currently being ridden by professionals and has come on leaps and bounds.
Oaty hacks out well by herself or with others and does not hot up or feed off other horses behaviour. She is sensible and brave on the roads and in open countryside. She has previously been on farm rides and has been shown to have excellent, with reliable brakes in open spaces. She has also previously been to stay-away camps where she settled fantastically well in a busy environment.
Due to Oaty’s medical history, Oaty has unfortunately developed some negative associations with arena work. While she is now entirely sound and comfortable, flatwork/schooling would need to be treated as a patient project. She could absolutely school again in the future with the right rider – and has been worked in the arena recently in walk, trot and canter – but it shouldn’t be a main focus. She is currently being sold primarily as a high-quality hacker and pleasure horse rather than a competition/schooling prospect. She does not respond well to pressure in the arena and has been known to rear prior to her medical issues being correctly diagnosed and treated. She has never reared out hacking. Full details will be disclosed to serious enquiries.
She may make a suitable hunt horse, but this is not something that interests me and as such, I have not taken Oaty hunting. However, like many mares, she has been known to kick when a horse gets too close to her back end, so this would need to be borne in mind.
Oaty is excellent on the ground – good to catch, bath, shoe, and clip. At previous stay-away camps, she was easy enough for her then very novice owner to handle on her own. Stands perfectly to mount.
To load, she can have a look at the box and isn’t one to walk straight on every single time. However, with the right groundwork and a confident, patient handler, she will load nicely. She isn’t worried at all by the box and travels beautifully, she can just be opinionated to load.
Like many mares, she can occasionally pull a face, but she is equally very sweet, affectionate, and loves a groom and her massage pad, she will just let you know when she’s had enough.
While she has excellent ground manners, she is not being sold as a novice ride and would not be a suitable first horse. She needs a capable, confident rider. Given her excellent bloodlines and temperament on the ground, she may also make a good broodmare but is not proven as such.
Will come with Henry James bridle and some rugs. Price negotiable to the right home.
