For Loan Cilla
Beautiful bay mare. Traditional Irish sports horse (90% or 7/8 TB in old money). 12 years, same home for the last almost 6. Full up 16.2. Available for full loan, can move yards up to 2hrs away from Bristol.
Due to a change in personal circumstances I can no longer afford to keep my wonderful girl. This isn’t a decision I ever planned to make and is absolutely heartbreaking.
She is one in a million, but she wouldn’t be for everyone. She’s the best fun you can have on four legs, and she’s got a wicked sense of humour, which means you need one too. I am genuinely quite often riding along creasing with laughter at her antics. She is forward to ride, and can be buzzy. Never malicious, she’s just jolly and likes to get on with her job. She can sometimes throw in the odd excitable leap or buck and a big old spook, so if this is something that bothers you please don’t enquire. Not marish at all, but absolutely won’t be bullied into anything. Will do absolutely anything for you once she trusts you. Super kind and genuine.
Super to hack, alone or in company (likes to be in front in company but will go behind, isn’t great at being left behind however – wouldn’t cope with others cantering off and leaving her for example).
Good in all traffic, needs a bit of reassurance at large tractors or other big farm traffic but will go past with a pat and some kind words. Good in open spaces, rubber snaffle mouth for everything. Absolutely loves to jump. She was bred to event, however due to limited time and funds we haven’t done a huge amount other than hack and school with the odd arena hire here and there. She could potentially go on and do a lot more than that, but is equally happy exploring the countryside. In her previous home she hunted and was a whip’s horse, however I absolutely don’t want her to go anywhere she will be hammered. She’s also team chased and done BS on a ticket. She wouldn’t like a home where she’s going to spend hours and hours going round in circles, as she thinks it’s incredibly boring – so isn’t one for the dressage divas out there (although she would do a nice test with a bit of polish).
She is impeccable on the ground, you won’t find a more gentle or sweet natured horse. Loves to give kisses and is a real yard favourite. I have a memory like a sieve and often leave her tacked up in the middle of the yard whilst I run back to fetch my whip / hat etc and she just stands like a rock. Fantastic to shoe, load etc. She travels well in a trailer or large lorry, she’s not the best in a rear facing small lorry as she can’t quite get her head around it, but I’m sure would get better with practice.
She does have some vet history from a few years ago. Very happy for any interested party to chat with my vet. She had very successful hind suspensory surgery (3 years ago) and also has had some issues with her front feet which mean she needs a sympathetic and decent farrier and not be hammered on hard ground. She has 6 monthly Cartrophen treatments which really help her. Up to date with absolutely everything.
She unfortunately didn’t have a great start in life, which means she doesn’t have an off switch when it comes to grass, she will quite literally eat until she is ill, she has had some episodes of gas colic as a result. She needs careful management from this perspective. I keep her on a grass track as much as possible which really helps, and manage her diet very carefully. Ideal home would have their own land and be able to set something up similar for her or restrict her grazing in some way. She’s absolutely not a horse you can just chuck out in a big field full of grass.
I’m looking for a long term loan for her, ideally within an hour or 2 of Bristol. The ideal person will be kind, sympathetic and knowledgeable.
She’d make a lovely hack, working hunter or low level all rounder.
Absolutely no novices, she is a big forward powerful mare and she can be sharp.
I am very happy to help the new person with her as much as they’d like as I know her very well, and I would like to be able to come and visit her.
Please apply if you think she is a good match. This is extremely hard so absolutely no time wasters or photo collectors please.
