Horse Details

‘Smudge’ (For Everyone (IRE)) is a 16.1hh 10yo TB gelding. Very sweet natured, quick learning, biddable horse who now needs his own person and a regular job to continue his retraining.

Smudge retired sound from his NH racing career (Ireland) in late 2025, and came over to me in November ’25, intended to be a second string horse happy to hack out occasionally with my other full time retraining project (another, younger ex racer). However, it transpires that Smudge isn’t as ready for semi-retirement as we’d thought. He has way more left in the tank, he’s fit, well, bright, biddable and wants more of a job than I have for him.

He’s a gentle horse, very easy to deal with, and loves attention and being told he’s a “good boy”! My feeling is that he’s the type that prefers a calm, quiet handler demeanour – he’s a TB after all! Good for farrier and holds his shoes well on good feet. Good for Vet, physio and has had teeth done since being with me (albeit sedated). LOVES his turn out. He’s looking good on an uncomplicated diet of mostly chaff. No vices.

Since coming to me he’s been hacked out in company, lightly schooled, and popped over simple coloured poles (no pressure stuff). More recently I’ve found a confident, capable, fun loving teenaged rider to keep him occupied (which cements further in my mind his need for regular work with the right person). No novices.
