Ex Point 2 Pointer Finds the Perfect Home

Brandy retired from racing in 2021, mainly having done P2P and his owner Nicky of 4 years advertised him with us at Right Horse Right Home in May last year looking for a new, experienced home where he could have a varied life.  He was a super jumper with a sensible head on his shoulders but being a Thoroughbred who had little experience outside of racing, Nicky knew the best type of home would be with someone who had previous experience with the breed.

Within less than 2 days Vicky from Berkshire, who was looking for a horse she could potentially hunt, applied for him and was successful in her application and bought him shortly after.

Vicky grew up riding but had a 20 year break before meeting her partner who played polo, which got her back in the saddle. All polo ponies are thoroughbreds so she felt comfortable around this breed.

In the 6 months they have been together Vicky has taken him out to dressage competitions, showjumping events and even take him out hunting.  Vicky continues to stay in touch with his old owner who recently emailed us and said I could not have found a better home for him!  Being an ex racehorse and not always the easiest, the right home was important to me. He also needed to go somewhere where he could have fun!  Vicky fitted the bill perfectly and she also knew thoroughbreds!

Vicky has thoroughly enjoyed her journey with Brandy over the summer and when we reached out to see how they were getting along she answered with the following;  “Brandy is fabulous, I am very lucky to have found such a genuine ex-P2P horse, from an equally genuine home where he was clearly loved. We’ve had a lot of adventures in our 6 mths together – new, exciting, sometimes a little scary experiences, & he’s asked a lot of questions, but responded with sense & courage.”

He’s done so much in a short time, but probably our biggest achievement has been (drag) hunting – within a few weeks he’s turned from a slightly unpredictable ‘racer’ into the horse the master wants to ride behind him and lead the field when he had to pull out of a fence …praise indeed!   He’s got some nice paces so will probably see what he thinks of dressage (!) this year and maybe brave a couple of one-day events.

We wish Vicky and Brandy all the very best for the future.
