Indie is 15’1, she is registered as a Skewbald but she looks Piebald, but she does have lighter bits.

Indie will be 7 in July 2026, and my daughter and I have owned her for over 2 years as a mother daughter share. She was well schooled by her previous owner , and is a very clever girl, but not a novice ride as she can be strong.

My daughter took her to Pony Camp and all the instructors were impressed by her and she won Best Horse.

My daughter has had show jumping lessons on her, and last year they did their first show.. Indie has a lovely ambling canter like a rocking horse, and a lovely extended trot, and she has so much potential. Experienced riders who I have let ride her, say she is lovely to ride.

Unfortunately my daughter has discovered boys and lost her love of riding. I have held out and held out, but I think it’s time to start the process of finding a new home for a horse who has taught us both so much.

My daughter used to exercise the thoroughbred in Indie – the speedy paces and jumping, and I enjoyed the cob side with a walk and a trot once a week. I am not a very confident rider and people at the yard say she looks after me, but she needs more than a walk and a trot, and I just can’t meet her needs.

I don’t even know how to lunge her!  Now my daughter has given up riding , I am struggling to meet her needs and out-horsed, and she needs more, she is bored. I feel sad that she is clever and has energy but I am not the rider she needs. She needs a confident and competent rider, who wants to have fun, and can teach her new things.

I would love to find her a home with an experienced owner, who can continue her schooling, who understands mares, and who can gain her trust and enjoy her potential and speed.

Indie has jumped up to 1 M, she has not jumped for a few months, so would need her fitness building up . Her previous owner said she did 35mph in a gallop, but she has not enjoyed a good gallop since the cross country at Pony Club summer camp, which she really seemed to enjoy.

When we got her she was so good and then she developed some quirks .after 6 months, which I think was prob lack of experience on our part… after a year of owning her, she decided she did not like the farrier, and would turn her bum and flatten her ears, so now she is sedated, but I wanted to try to get her back to where she was, and maybe try a new farrier who will get to know her. She has front shoes only.

If she trusts you, you can do anything, the adage “tell a gelding, but ask a mare” is true , her previous owner used to clip her but we have not managed to do this, her coat is quite fine, so she has not needed it, but I have no experience in clipping and she knows we haven’t got a clue, so says nope.

When in season she struggles with focus, and is girthy when tacked up, she will pin her ears back and pull a face.

I have also inadvertently trained her so that she expects a treat when putting the head collar on – whereas when we first got her, we would just put it on …

She does not do mean things under the saddle, and has never reared or dropped a shoulder, if in season she can throw a diva like buck when ridden as she would rather not, I am trying different supplements.

My daughter and her had a lovely bond and it is so sad that she has stopped, Indie would do everything she asked and try to please.

She likes hacking with other horses, I tend to keep her at the back as she is a mare and does not like horses getting close to her bum especially in season.

She likes other horses, she was living in the herd when I first got her, but she got herd bound and although we could catch he fine (with a treat), she would then plant sometimes and not come in, particularly if there was hay out there, whenever I asked for help, other people could get her moving, and people at the yard tell me that she is taking the micky out of me :(. We moved her to an individual paddock with neighbours, and she comes in fine. She loves a routine so will wait at the gate, or will run up the paddock when called. She would not be happy in a home without other horses, she needs to be in a home with other horses.

She does not weave or crib.

When hacking alone, she takes confidence from the rider and when in walk, she sometimes stops if she is unsure, but she does not wheel, she just stands. If she spooks at something when ridden, she does not run off or rear or spin, she will just kind of jump. I feel safe when riding her and I am not very confident.

She loads OK, she has to contemplate it first and then will walk in and has travelled in a box and trailer, she has travelled alone, but she prefers a companion, and we have not loaded her since Nov. I have a trailer and can get her used to this again.

I love her so much, and selling her is not an easy decision, there have been many tears, I will miss her whinny when she sees me … but I really want the right owner for her and for her to live her best life.
