For Sale £2,500 Finn
Absolute gentleman now looking for a quieter life. Finn is a 15 yr old 16.1hh ISH grey gelding. He used to be an eventer but he wasn’t really enjoying competing at 100cm so came to me in 2020 for a step down where he was happier doing low level stuff. Me and my daughters have done various local competitions, pony club events and lots of hacking. Following a freak accident about 16 months ago where he stood on a nail out hacking, the subsequent X-rays and MRI scans we took to check the nail hadn’t gone into any key structures (it hadn’t) but showed he had navicular disease. He has annual injections (hock and coffin joints) – I’ve found he is starting to struggle with jumping (even the lower heights) and doesn’t find cantering in the school as easy anymore. He is a super hack – strides out really well, very responsive and comfy to ride. Can hack alone or in company. Enjoys a canter across the fields – especially when the ground is soft otherwise prefers sticking to walking and trotting when the ground is hard.
Sadly I don’t have the time for him anymore as work is very busy and he’s not getting the love and attention he deserves. My daughters very much want to continue jumping and although Finn would oblige, I don’t think he’s comfortable.
The ideal person would be someone that is mainly looking for a happy hacker – that doesn’t want to be bombing around the countryside but likes a decent ride. He’s not a weight carrier and because of his navicular a lighter jockey would be best (up to 10 stone). He’s not for a novice either – he’s very well schooled and although a super honest and genuine chap, he wouldn’t massively like someone bouncing around on his back or snatching at his mouth. He’s a pretty fit strong horse and definitely not a plod.
His new mum and home is definitely my top priority, much more so than price as I want the best for him. Realistically with his navicular it’s unlikely he will make a ripe old age but he’s definitely no where near ready to retire from hacking.
I’m based in Gloucestershire and great if he doesn’t go million miles away so I can ideally check his new home and keep in touch.
I gave him a rest over winter and took his shoes off but plan to bring him back into work later this month. He will be due steroid injections around May/June time. I’m not in a hurry to sell him so happy to wait until the right person comes along. And happy for any new potential owner to see what he is like pre injections.
He’s great to load, travel, catch, clip. No vices. Not a stressy horse, doesn’t get attachment anxiety. Never bites or kicks. Easy to catch and great with other horses. Just a beautiful gentle soul.
